Eric Carle

About the Author

Eric Carle, in my mind, is a brilliant writer and artist. He was born in the Untiled States but moved to Germany at the age of six. He lived there until graduating from an art school by the name of Akademie der bildenden Kunste. He left Germany to go back to the United States where he worked for The New York Times and later an advertizing agency as an art director.

He found his true calling after another author asked him to collaborate on a children's book. This book "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" was a hit and helped Mr. Carle to start illistrating and writing his own children's books.

The result was "1, 2, 3 to the Zoo" and many more, including the best selling book, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar".

Introducing My Love for Eric Carle Children's Books

I have been in love with Eric Carle books since the first grade. My teacher Miss Jones read "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" to our class and I will never forget how this book struck the artist in me. The colors were so vivid and I remember the wholes in each page. This book was so different from most of the picture books of that time.

Eric Carle was a best selling author and has sold more than 30 million copies of his books, in over 50 different languages. Wow!

I am now 35 years old and read these pieces of art to my children. I have six very active children from the ages of nine to ten months old. Each of them has their favorite book to read or be read too, but I noticed that when bedtime rolls around, each child wants me to read an Eric Carle book. They love looking at the art and asking questions about the pictures. They touch each page and sometimes they will enjoy reading them out loud to me!

Our recommendations are as followed:

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The Seahorse

Pancakes, Pancakes!

I hope that you will enjoy reading these books as much as we have. And thanks for reading my blog!
